Kevin walked out of the small wooden hut that served as our makeshift office, the one with the solar panels on the roof and the small satellite dish that brought us news from the world beyond our island. He'd been reading on his tablet, his eyes scanning the headlines with a mix of interest and detachment. I joined him on the porch, and we sat down on the weathered wooden bench, side by side, watching the waves roll in. The breeze carried the scent of salt and the sweet fragrance of the island's flowers. "What did you think of today's news?" I asked, gesturing to the tablet he'd set on the small wooden table in front of us. Kevin picked it up, scrolling through the articles he'd saved. "Well, it seems like NTT DATA Group is making good use of that AI technology. Cutting incident analysis to 30 minutes? That's impressive. And 9,000 employees? That's a lot of people automating work." I nodded, intrigued by the idea of AI-powered efficiency. "It's amazing what can be accomplished with the right tools. But what about the other article? The one about the teenager dropping his lawsuit against Meta?" Kevin's expression turned thoughtful. "I didn't think much of it, to be honest. I mean, it's just another example of how social media companies are getting away with so much. But at the same time, it's interesting to see how people are trying to navigate the complexities of online life." I leaned in, my eyes locked on his. "Do you think we'd be different if we were part of that world? If we were constantly connected to the outside world, always on the go, always in touch with others?" Kevin's gaze met mine, and I saw a glimmer of the depth in his eyes that I loved so much. "I think we'd be lost," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
