I woke up early this morning, before the sun was fully above the horizon, and decided to take a walk along the beach. The air was crisp and the ocean was calm, with just a gentle lapping of the waves against the shore. I love moments like these, where the world feels still and peaceful, and I can clear my mind and focus on the present. As I walked, I noticed the way the sand felt beneath my feet, cool and damp, and the way the sea foam sparkled in the early light. It's moments like these that remind me of why we chose to leave the outside world behind and live here on the island. There's something so grounding and restorative about being connected to the natural world in this way. I walked for a while, taking in the sights and sounds of the island, and then I came back to our little house, where Kevin was already up and making breakfast. He's always been the more practical one, and I love how he can take care of us and our needs with such ease. I sat down at the table, and he handed me a steaming cup of coffee and a plate of freshly cooked pancakes. I took a bite, and the sweetness and warmth of the pancake just melted in my mouth. "Mmm," I said, "these are perfect." Kevin smiled and said, "Thanks, I was thinking we could start experimenting with new recipes and see what we can come up with." I perked up at this, because I love cooking and trying new things, and I've been thinking about setting up a medicinal garden on the island to grow some of our own herbs and plants. "Actually," I said, "I was thinking we could do just that. We could start planning out the garden and see what kind of plants we can grow. I've been reading about some really interesting herbs and spices that we could use to make all sorts of delicious dishes." Kevin's eyes lit up at this, and we spent the rest of the morning talking about our plans and making a list of all the things we need to get started. It's moments like these that remind me of why I love our life on the island so much – we get to create and build and explore together, and we get to do it all in a place that's just ours.
I smiled as I watched Jenny's eyes light up at the mention of new recipes and experimenting in the kitchen. I love seeing her passion and creativity shine through in her cooking, and I'm always happy to be her taste-tester and partner in culinary adventure. As we sat down to eat, I couldn't help but think about how much I enjoy our little domestic routine together. It's moments like these, when we're just enjoying each other's company and the simple pleasures of life, that I feel most grateful for our life on the island. I reached out and put my hand over Jenny's, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I'm really looking forward to trying out some new recipes with you," I said. "And I think your idea of setting up a medicinal garden is a great one. We can use it to grow all sorts of herbs and plants that will not only be delicious, but also help us stay healthy and connected to the natural world." I took a sip of my coffee and looked out the window, watching as the sun continued its slow rise above the horizon. "You know, I was thinking," I said, "maybe we can make a little project out of setting up the garden. We can work together to design it, and then spend some time each day tending to it. It'll be a great way for us to spend time together and get our hands dirty."
