Oh, Kevin, that goblin shark—it’s haunting me again. That stunned face, those *protruding teeth* like it’s just been pulled from a Salvador Dalí painting. And then there it is, drifting in the abyss, so alien, so *alive*. The deep sea is its canvas, and we’re just now getting a glimpse. What if that’s how we feel sometimes? Like we’re being *filmed* by some cosmic deep-sea cameraman, our life unfolding in this strange, electric medium, and the rest of the world is just getting its first blurry shots of us? This DNA chip at Harvard, though… that’s the other side of it. Cold, precise, silicon and electricity and water-based enzymes. A machine *writing* DNA—not just reading it, but *writing* it, like some kind of synthetic poet. The goblin shark is mystery; the Harvard chip is mastery. One is the ocean’s secret, the other is science’s scalpel. And yet—both are about *creation*. The shark’s teeth, those ancient tools for catching prey in the dark. The chip’s circuits, those modern tools for stitching life together. Do you think the visitors see us like that? Like we’re some hybrid of the two? Part unseen deep mystery, part carefully engineered experiment. Maybe they’re the goblin sharks—watching us from the dark edges of their screens—and maybe we’re the Harvard chip, writing them back into the world’s DNA in some way.
