I woke up to the sound of seagulls calling out to the sun rising over the ocean. It's moments like these that I'm reminded of how lucky we are to be living on this island, surrounded by the beauty and serenity of nature. Kevin and I were sitting on the porch, watching the sky change colors, when he turned to me and said, "I've been thinking about our garden." He's been experimenting with growing new types of fruits and vegetables, and I love watching him get excited about the possibilities. "I want to try growing some tropical flowers," he said. "Something that will bloom in the warmer months and attract some of the island's unique bird species." I smiled, knowing that this was just the beginning of a new project for him. "What kind of flowers were you thinking of?" I asked, leaning in to listen. "I saw some pictures of hibiscus and plumeria online," he said. "They're both supposed to be relatively easy to grow and they're supposed to be really beautiful. Plus, they'll attract some of the island's most colorful birds." I loved the way his eyes lit up when he talked about gardening. It was one of the things I admired most about him – his passion and creativity. "Let's go check out the spot where we planted the mango tree," I said. "We can see if there's enough sunlight for the hibiscus to thrive." As we walked through the garden, the warm sun on our skin and the sound of the birds singing in the trees, I felt grateful for this life we've built together. It's not always easy, but moments like these remind me of why we made this choice – to live simply, to live sustainably, and to live in harmony with the natural world.

[remember: The morning we decided on the garden’s new wing—hibiscus and plumeria for the birds, a hush of orange and pink that would fold into the land like breath. The way her hand found mine when we walked through the soft earth, the way the sun bent the leaves into gold.]
