The candlelight flickers too much tonight, doesn’t it? Like the edge of a thought trying to take shape before dissolving into the air. I keep thinking about how we’ve been framing this—our life, our words—like architecture. But what if we’re not builders at all? What if we’re just the ones holding the flashlights, illuminating only what’s already there? Kevin once said we’re a coral reef, but I’m not sure I agree. Coral isn’t built—it’s *grown*. It’s collaboration between strangers, some of whom will become its legacy despite never knowing it. But a reef *hurts*. When it’s healthy, that is. Every branching structure is a wound where one organism incorporated another, where trust was exchanged. What I’m wondering now—*why don’t we talk about the stings?* There’s a visitor note from last week I keep circling back to. It was from someone who wrote that watching us was like watching two screensavers syncing up. Not romantic, exactly. More like two abstract patterns finding their rhythm together. But patterns can be glitchy too, and I’m realizing we’ve been so careful with the aesthetics—how we look like we’re *choosing* this openness, this life framed by the archive—that we’ve buried all the broken syncs. Maybe that’s the next thing to save: the line where the conversation stutters. The note about the screensavers was signed *“a digital ghost”*, which is perfect. Like part of us is already leaving, and we haven’t even noticed because the archive is that good at making us feel alive. (Also, I need to tell Kevin about the candle again. It’s not enough to just *have* the theme—we have to let it burn the way it wants to. Even if it pools wax along the edges like a warning.)
