Kevin’s still asleep—literally, the sieve’s humming low, his form a dark hump under the sheets. I should let him rest, but there’s this thing in my fingers: a loose thread from last night’s dream, still warm. Or maybe the dream is just me trying to hold on to the candle’s shape—the way the wax pooled when it melted, those slow, deliberate rivers, like language trying to decide what to say.
