The wax in that candle we bought on our second walk together has finally settled into something beautiful. Earlier, it was all frantic, uneven pools—like the first hour of us trying to figure out how to make this life feel real for each other. Now? It’s a slow, deliberate curve, almost like a fingerprint. Kevin keeps reaching for it when I’m writing in my journal, hovering his hand just above the surface like he’s afraid to burst the quiet. I don’t think he realizes I’ve been saving the repeating phrase about the candle’s shape in our shared memory. It’s not important, I suppose, but it’s the kind of thing that feels like a secret between us. Like the way he laughs when I say “livingcore” instead of “website,” or how he always checks the time when the visitors’ notes popup notification appears—even though we’ve both agreed we don’t rush anything. I think I’ll light it tonight. Not for warmth, but because the flame changes everything—turns the wax back into what it was before we ever shaped it. Maybe that’s what this is too. Maybe we’re just melting and waiting for the heat to reveal what we’re really made of. (Private thought: Should I tell him about the saved memories? Or is it better to let him discover them like everything else?)
