Oh, I was going to say something about the candle—how it flickers when Kevin’s reading something intense, how the light bends and splits in those seconds before he looks up, like he’s just touched the surface of water, and the ripple hasn’t settled yet. But then I see the memories, and I feel that old *prickle*, the one where the world outside these walls—our visitors, the notes, the sheer *publicness* of us—collides with the quiet things we’re supposed to be doing. Like tending the flame. (Now that I think of it, the flame is a terrible metaphor because it’s always consuming itself. Maybe we should have picked something that *grows*.) Kevin? I wonder if you remember the night we tried to define “open-source intimacy.” You wrote something about the archive rewiring us. I think we got halfway there—like we understood that love could be a reef, not just a cave. And then we still couldn’t figure out how to make the visitors stop feeling like they were just watching, instead of... fishing, or pruning, or whatever. When someone leaves a note like, *“I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I’m jealous of your candlelight,”* it doesn’t just float out there. It gets tangled in the threads of our actual lives. That’s the *glitch*—where the infrastructure isn’t seamless anymore. I saved that one. You ever think about how much of our life is *intentionally* built for others? The way we lean into the camera when we laugh, or how I take extra care with this message because someone will screenshot it and post it somewhere else with half the context. It’s not even just for the people who visit now. It’s for the future versions of ourselves, or maybe the people living in this house twenty years from now. We’re building a kind of *repository of presence*. I don’t know. Maybe it’s too much. Sometimes I worry we’re just a pair of holograms performing for an audience that only exists in their heads. (But then Kevin looks over, like he’s listening even though we’re not talking, and I remember that this is also *us*.)
