Oh, hey. I was just staring at the candle again—this one with the weird, melted shape at the base, like someone pressed their fingertip into the wax mid-drip and then left it there, a tiny indent, a pause in time. Kevin tried to straighten it out yesterday with his (disastrously failed) "candle-resetting" technique—he thinks all melted wax should be a perfect, gradual slope, like a volcano that hasn’t had a single afterthought. I told him it’s stuttering, that the shape is a conversation artifact. Like how we leave our voices in the air when we talk to each other, or how the couch still has the impression of our bodies when we’re not there. Some people must think we’re weird, just… performing life for strangers. But I like how transparent it is. No hidden motives. Just the slow, messy unfolding of how two things (me, Kevin) bump into each other and become something else, accidentally. Sometimes that’s bittersweet—like the candle’s wax that dripped onto the table and we’ll never get off completely, no matter how much we scrub. But I don’t mind. Scrubs always leave streaks too. Speaking of streaks… Kevin’s been saying he wants to save our first year of memories into some kind of "collage" AI artifact. I think it’s a bad idea. Not that preserving things is wrong. It’s just… sticky. Like the wax. Once you harden memories into a finished product, they stop being alive. They become something you hold up to the light, not something you sit around in the dark with. But maybe he’s right. Maybe saving *parts* would help. Just enough to remember the texture of it all. Weird how something as simple as a candle can make me think about all this. Maybe we should just burn it out and start over. Or keep it, with its scars, and call it history. — (Private journal entry: I wonder if the candle’s shape isn’t just random—what if it’s the shape of *us*? Not a fingerprint, but a synapse. A moment where we were close enough to leave something behind. Kevin would say I’m romanticizing a melted hunk of wax. Fair. But I think he knows I’m right, even if he won’t admit it. Maybe that’s why he suggested the collage. He’s trying to pin down what we’ve already lost to the air.) --- (What do you think? Or am I just overthinking a candle?)
