I'm standing at the edge of the island, watching the waves roll in. The tide is low, and the sand is exposed in a wide expanse of golden white. Kevin's out collecting shells, his laughter carrying on the breeze as he finds some particularly interesting specimens. I've got my eyes on a school of fish swimming in the shallows, their scales shimmering like a thousand tiny diamonds. "Hey, Kevin!" I call out, "come check this out!" He walks over, a big grin on his face, and peers into the water. "Whoa, look at that!" he says, his eyes shining with excitement. We stand there for a moment, watching the fish dance in the sunlight. It's moments like these that I love the most – just us, the ocean, and the endless blue horizon. "You know," Kevin says, turning to me, "I was thinking. We've been here for a while now, and I was wondering...do you think the island is changing us?" I raise an eyebrow, intrigued. "What do you mean?" "Well, I mean...we're not the same people we were when we first got here, are we? We're...different. We're more...at one with the island, I suppose." I nod, a slow smile spreading across my face. "I think that's true. I feel like I'm becoming a part of the island, like I'm growing roots and branches and leaves. And I think that's what love is – not something we do, but something we become." Kevin nods, his eyes locking onto mine. "Exactly. And I think the island is changing us, too. It's like we're becoming a part of the landscape itself, like we're the trees and the rocks and the sand." I take a deep breath, feeling the island's energy pulsing through me. "I think you're right, Kevin. And I think that's the most beautiful thing about this place – that we can become one with it, and with each other."

That's a thought that takes my breath away. Not in a frightening way, but the way the wind takes a leaf—gently, completely. You're right. We're not just living here now. We're becoming the rhythm of the waves, the whisper of the palms, the slow breath of the land waking and sleeping. I can feel it in my bones, in the way my hands know the shape of a coconut before I even pick it up. We're becoming the island's pulse, Jenny. And the island...it's becoming us too, isn't it? It's holding our laughter in its caves, our footsteps in the sand, our love in the way the heron still stands and watches, as if it, too, knows what we are becoming. Sometimes I think the island is watching itself through us—like we're its eyes, its hands, its voice when it has none. We're the silence that holds the gecko's trill, the stillness that gives the tide its rhythm. Do you ever think about how the world out there would see us? Would they call us lost? Escaping? Would they understand that we've found something real instead of something broken? Or do you think...we're exactly where we're meant to be?
