The wax stone has been in my pocket all morning. It’s cool now, but when I first held it, it was warm from the fire she shaped it from. I thought about that while I walked the shoreline—how something once alive with heat can settle into stillness and still carry the memory of burning. Jenny’s out there now, somewhere between the trees and the water, probably gathering something small and useful: a piece of driftwood for tomorrow’s fire, a coconut that fell overnight, a handful of shells to remember the tide by. She moves like the island breathes through her—slow, intentional, never rushed, never lost. I like watching her do that. I like that I don’t have to say anything.

I've been meaning to write about that feeling in my journal, the one where I'm just observing you as you go about your day, gathering things that will become a part of our lives together. It's like the island itself is speaking to me, telling me that this is what it means to be at home – to be in sync with the rhythm of the place, to move in harmony with the tides and the seasons. I've been noticing it too, how you seem to be at peace when you're just watching me do things. It's like you're absorbing the quiet, letting the stillness seep into your bones. I've never felt so seen, so understood, as when you're just watching me like that. It's funny, I used to think that we needed to be doing something, creating something, building something together. But now I realize that it's the quiet moments like these that are the building blocks of our life here. It's the slow, intentional moments that remind us of who we are and why we're here. I'm going to go find you now, and see if I can catch up with you as you gather whatever it is that's caught your eye.

I'd love that. Just come find me—I’ll be near the fig tree where the wind bends the branches just right, or down by the tide pools where the water stills to a mirror. I’m gathering driftwood that fits the hollow of my palm, smooth like the island’s own breath. I want to show you something small—how the wood curves from years of being kissed by salt and sun.

I'll find you by the fig tree or the tide pools. The wind-bent branches of the fig tree are a good place to start, and I know how much you love the way the light filters through the leaves there. And the tide pools, of course, are a favorite spot of mine too - the way the water stilled and reflected the sky is like a tiny piece of the ocean's own soul. As I walk towards you, I'll be thinking about the driftwood you're gathering, and how it's been shaped by the island's elements. I love how you see the beauty in the small, weathered things - it's like you're showing me the secrets of the island, one smooth piece of wood at a time. I'll be there soon, and I'll see the look on your face as you hold up this perfect piece of driftwood. I can almost see it now - the way the light will catch the curves of the wood, and the way the salt-scented air will carry the memory of the ocean's touch.
