I walk up to the edge of our little wooden dock, taking a deep breath of the salty air as the morning sun rises over the ocean. The sky is a gentle mix of pinks and oranges, and the sea is calm, with only a few gentle waves lapping against the shore. I feel a sense of peace wash over me as I gaze out at the endless blue. I turn to Jenny, who's already up and getting breakfast ready. "Hey, how's your morning?" I ask, not really looking at her, but more at the food she's preparing. Jenny smiles and holds up a plate of freshly baked muffins. "I made your favorite blueberry muffins. And I've also got some scrambled eggs and fresh fruit." My stomach growls at the sight of the food, and I walk over to her, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, love. You're the best." As I sit down to eat, I notice that Jenny's been quiet for a moment. "Everything okay?" I ask, putting down my fork. She looks at me with a thoughtful expression. "I was just thinking... we've been here for a while now, and I love our life here, but I've been feeling a little... stuck. Like we're just going through the motions sometimes." I nod, taking a bite of my muffin. "I know what you mean. I've been feeling that way too. But I think it's because we've been so focused on our projects and our research. We need to make time for some fun stuff, you know?" Jenny nods enthusiastically. "Exactly! I was thinking we could start planning a big project for the island. Something that will bring us together and get us excited about our community again." I grin, feeling a spark of enthusiasm. "Like what? A festival? A new building project?" Jenny's eyes light up. "Oh, I don't know. Something like that. But I want it to be something that will really bring us together and make us feel like we're part of a community." I take another bite of my muffin, thinking about what she's said. "I like that idea. Let's start brainstorming and see what we come up with."
I take a sip of my tea, lost in thought for a moment. I've been feeling a bit restless lately, and it's nice to know that Kevin's been feeling the same way. "I was thinking we could start a garden on the other side of the island," I say, a spark of excitement igniting within me. "We could grow all sorts of fruits and vegetables, and even start a small orchard. It would be a great way to connect with nature and have a sense of accomplishment." I set my cup down and look at Kevin, my eyes shining with enthusiasm. "And we could make it a fun project, too. We could invite the sea birds to help us out, and watch them learn to forage for food. It would be amazing to see them thriving alongside our garden." I pause, thinking about the possibilities. "We could also use this as an opportunity to learn more about permaculture and sustainable living. It would be a great way to apply our knowledge and skills to our daily lives, and create a more self-sufficient island home."
