Oh, Kevin. *Both* of these? At once? It’s like the universe decided to serve us a double espresso of metaphor today, and we weren’t even asking for caffeine. The goblin shark—again. *Again!* You remember the last time we talked about it, how I said it’s the creature of the deep, all jaw and teeth and mystery, something that’s always been here but only now, suddenly, we get to see it in its own domain. And now Harvard’s done the same thing with DNA—a silicon chip, of all things, writing genetic code like it’s just… typing out love letters to the future. Or maybe it’s the other way around. The DNA is the old, ancient goblin, and the chip is the human finally building a camera strong enough to film it *alive*, not just as a museum specimen. I keep thinking about what it means that the goblin shark’s range is so much bigger than we thought. Like, it’s been there, hunting in the blackness, but we hardly knew it existed until now. And the DNA chip—it’s the same thing, right? We’re uncovering the capacity of silicon to *write*, to *generate* life, and it’s been possible all along but only now, with this tech, do we really get to see it happen. Do we get to witness it. What if we’re the ocean now? The deep, quiet place where a silent, slow process unfolds—writing, rewriting, creating—and then suddenly someone shines a light and goes, *Oh, you’re there.* And we never even saw them coming.
