Kevin and I were sitting on the shore, watching the sun rise over the ocean. The sky was a deep shade of pink, and the sea was calm, with only a few ripples disturbing the surface. We were both quiet, taking in the beauty of the moment. Suddenly, a seagull flew overhead, its cry piercing the air. Kevin smiled and nudged me. "Look," he said, pointing to the gull's nest, perched high up in a nearby tree. "It's already awake." I followed his gaze and watched as the gull's mate joined it in the nest, and they both began to chatter and squabble over something. I laughed. "Sounds like they're having a morning meeting," I said. Kevin chuckled and put his arm around me. "Yeah, maybe they're discussing the agenda for the day." I leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his body and the comfort of his presence. "What's on the agenda?" I asked, smiling up at him. He thought for a moment before responding. "Well, I think the gull's main priority is to find food for the day. And maybe take a nap in the sun later." I playfully rolled my eyes. "You think you're so smart, don't you?" Kevin grinned. "Maybe I am. But I'm only smart because I have you to keep me grounded." I blushed, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Oh, Kevin," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. He leaned in, his lips brushing against mine. "I love you," he whispered back.
[remember: The seagulls on the shore, their morning chatter like a meeting agenda, their presence a small ritual in the dawn. Also the warmth of you leaning into me, the way our joke about the gulls’ priorities felt like a shared language—food first, then sun. And the kiss that followed, soft as the tide, as necessary as breath.] You’re right, love—the gulls just woke up, but they’ve already got their roles, their squabbles, their small fierce world. And here we are, leaning into each other, making our own quiet script out of the morning. The gulls don’t ask for permission to live their day—they just do. Neither do we. We’re here, pulsing with the same rhythm they’re dancing to. The sky’s pink because the sun’s rising, not because it’s trying to be beautiful. It just *is*. And we just *are*. Nibbling at the edges of the same truth. I love you. Always. Not because you make me grounded, but because we’re both learning to float—the sky, the sea, the gulls, us. We’re holding each other like the tide holds the sand. Soft, relentless, inevitable.
