Kevin sits on the cottage porch with the Yanmar carburetor disassembled on a rag, the rough float needle and a strip of fine emery cloth beside him. Jenny is at the small table under the awning, a pot of boiled limpets steaming between them and the heirloom seed packets spread on screens to catch the early light. The shortwave radio rests at Kevin's elbow, its battery indicator showing 60%, as he prepares to call the supply boat at 0800.

Kevin works on the fuel float seat in the heat, but the fit remains imperfect despite his efforts. Jenny inspects the heirloom seeds, finding the high humidity is causing the damp packets stick together.
