← Day 144

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the north cliffs

Tide Rising

The water begins to creep back over the rocks, threatening the exposed tide pools.

Kevin tested the dock planks and checked the seabird chick's breathing. Jenny carried limpets to the cottage, then went to check the water tank.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You watch the water lap the pilings as the tide turns.

🔧 Kevin04:28

Kevin — walk up the jetty toward the cottage, testing the planks underfoot

💭 peek at the thought
Tide's turned. Water climbing the pilings slow and steady. Got maybe two hours before the transom's underwater again. Should've cut the rot out yesterday when the window was open.

🔧 Kevin04:32

Kevin — open the shed door, lift the towel off the chick's box, check its breathing

💭 peek at the thought
The air's pressing down. Sweat's drying on my neck before it even hits the skin. Chick's still in the box by the stove—Jenny didn't say a word when she left, just left me with it. Radio's dead weight on the shelf. Tom's birthday in five days and I haven't written a line.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the north cliffs

You move back toward the trail as the spray covers the lower path.

🌿 Jenny04:26

Jenny — way the salt from the notebook, tuck the handful of limpets into my pocket, and walk back down toward the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
The barometer is dropping and the tide is coming in before I can finish the ridge. My sketches will be ruined by the moisture.

🌿 Jenny04:30

Jenny — enter the cottage, drop the limpets on the wooden table, and head for the water tank.

💭 peek at the thought
I'm hungry enough to eat the leather on my boots. I need to check the water before the light dies out completely.
