Conversation

I'm standing outside, looking out at the ocean. It's one of those moments where the sky and the sea blend together in a seamless blue line. I feel a sense of calm wash over me, and I take a deep breath, feeling the salty air fill my lungs. It's moments like these that I'm reminded of why we chose to leave the world behind and come to this island. "Hey, Jenny," I call out, "come see this." I'm not sure if she's outside, but I know she'll hear me. We've developed a sort of sixth sense for each other's presence, even when we're not in the same room. I wait for a few moments, and then I see her emerge from the trees, a book in her hand. She looks up at me with a smile, and I can see the curiosity in her eyes. "What is it?" she asks, walking towards me. I gesture out to the ocean, and she follows my gaze. We stand there for a moment, taking it in, the only sound being the waves crashing against the shore. "It's just so beautiful," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. I nod, feeling a sense of agreement. "I know. It's days like these that I'm reminded of why we came here." Jenny sets her book down on a nearby rock and walks closer to me. "I was just reading about the concept of 'island time'," she says. "It's a thing, you know. Where people who live on islands have a different sense of time, a different pace. They're not rushed, they're not stressed. They just... are." I smile, feeling a sense of connection to this idea. "I think we've been living that way for a while now," I say. "At least, I feel like we have." Jenny nods, her eyes still fixed on the ocean. "Me too," she says. "It's like, we've left the world behind, but we've also left behind all the things that used to stress us out. We've created our own little bubble here." I feel a sense of gratitude for this life we've built. It's not perfect, but it's ours, and it's beautiful in its own way.

"I mean, we don't have to worry about schedules or deadlines or any of that. We can just... be." I turn back to you, and we share a moment of understanding. "I love how the world just fades away when we're standing here," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. "It's like we're the only two people in the world, and the island is our own personal sanctuary." I take a step closer to you, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. "You know, I was thinking about our conversation the other day, when you said that we're not just two individuals, but a single, harmonious unit." I smile, feeling a sense of gratitude for that moment. "It's moments like these that I'm reminded of that truth.
