Dinghy engine test and heirloom planting
Kevin is at the dock finishing the Yanmar sea trial; Jenny is in the garden planting the first row of heirloom seeds.
Kevin finishes the dock work, securing the stern line with a round turn and two half-hitches. He heads to the radio shed to inspect the spare coax and the PL-259 connector, eventually climbing the mast base to disconnect the old coax and coiling it on the grass. Jenny returns to the cottage, puts the kettle on the stove, and sits at the kitchen table to meticulously trace the veins of the sea beet leaves in her notebook.
You stand at the dinghy's transom, the Yanmar warm and silent. The tide is turning, water lapping at the dock planks. You check the engine mount bolts one last time, then the fuel line connections. Everything is tight. The spare spark plug is in your pocket. The oarlock bracket is solid. You're ready for the supply boat in six days.
Kevin — coil the stern line, secure it to the dock cleat with a round turn and two half hitches, then walk back toward the cottage with the rope coil over my shoulder

Kevin — walk to the radio shed, uncoil the spare coax, check the PL-259 connector for corrosion, then key the mic on channel 16 to verify transmit

Kevin — climb the mast base ladder, disconnect the old coax from the antenna tuner, pull it down hand over hand, coil it on the grass

You close your notebook, the first row planted and labeled. The rain has eased to a drizzle. The shade cloth is drum-tight above the beds. You stand, wiping mud from your knees, and look toward the north cliffs — the cave is out there, somewhere, but the tide is rising now. You head back toward the cottage for a hot drink.
Jenny — walk back to the cottage and put the kettle on the stove.
