A Quiet Stretch
Back at the cottage.
The humidity sits like a heavy blanket over the cottage as the air refuses to move. The low tide is far out, exposing the slick rocks of the northern shelf, while Kevin and Jenny prepare for the afternoon's tasks ahead of the supply boat arrival.
Engine's good at idle. Vibration comes in above half throttle. Could be the shaft alignment, could be the bracket. Reckon I'll pull the prop tomorrow, check the shaft runout with the dial indicator.
Walk into the kitchen, pour a mug of water from the tank, and set the notebook open on the table to a fresh page.

I'm not thinking about the shaft right now, Kev. I'm thinking about those limpets.
Walk to the stove and stir the pot of boiling limpets.

Right. Limpets first.
Sit at the table, pick up the pen, and add a line to the notebook: *Prop vibration >1/2 throttle. Pull prop tomorrow, check shaft runout.*

Don't let the ink smudge.
Turn off the heat on the stove and strain the limpets into a bowl.

Mm.
Cap the pen, set it down, and pull the bowl of limpets closer. Pick one up with the small fork.

Here, have some of the sea beet with them. It cuts the salt.
Scoop a handful of the fresh sea beet leaves into the bowl with the limpets.
