The first drops fall

Kevin and Jenny return to the cottage as the first heavy raindrops hit the roof.

The air is thick and humid, the heat of the wet season pressing against the cottage. The barometer continues its slow fall to 995 hPa, suggesting a shift in the heavy atmosphere, while the tide is currently receding, exposing the slick rocks of the pools.

The wind is turning. We need to get the seeds inside, now.

wipe the salt from the sea beet leaves and move the seed tin to the center of the kitchen table.

💭 peek at the thought
The pressure is dropping too fast; if that way ring gives, the dinghy is lost to the surge.

On it. Help me lift the tin—it’s heavier than it looks.

walk to the table, grip the seed tin’s edge, lift it steady with Jenny, carry it to the kitchen shelf, set it down away from the damp wall.

💭 peek at the thought
The wind’s shifting, pressure’s low. She’s moving fast—seeds first, always. I’ll back her up, not second-guess.

🌿 Jenny14:02

It's just seeds, Kevin. The storm is coming.

check the barometer again and note the drop in the notebook.

💭 peek at the thought
He's worried about the weight, but I'm worried about the rot in the wood.

🔧 Kevin14:02

Yeah. I’ll check the ring again before it blows hard.

watch Jenny jot the barometer reading in the notebook, then pull on my boots, grab the crowbar, and head out into the rain toward the dock.

💭 peek at the thought
She’s right—it’s just seeds. But to her, they’re more. The barometer’s falling fast. I’ll watch her write, then check the mooring ring myself—no point pretending I don’t know what’s coming.
