Kevin and Jenny meet at the cottage around the stove. The kettle's on for coffee. Boiled limpets and chopped sea beet wait in a pan. The shortwave radio sits on the table at 60% battery. Rain drums on the roof, on and off, warm for the season. The barometer reads 1003 hPa and falling.

Kevin tested the dinghy engine with the spare spark plug, confirming it runs under load. Jenny spent the afternoon documenting coastal flora and checking the drying seed packets. High humidity prevented the epoxy on the mast step from curing.
