The tide is receding rapidly, leaving slick rocks and drying tide pools exposed near the dock. Kevin is exhausted from the morning's labor, sweating through as he prepares to test the Yanmar engine in the cooling afternoon air, while Jenny sits in the garden, her ankle throbbing with a sharp, radiating heat as she prepares to finally open her grandmother's rusted seed tin.
