Foraging at low tide
The tide is fully out, revealing limpets and small rock crabs. You and Jenny meet at the shore to gather supplies.
Kevin tested the Yanmar engine at half throttle and found it smooth, then fetched the cast iron pot for cooking. Jenny collected limpets from the tide pools and examined sea beet clusters on the northern shelf. Both returned to the cottage to prepare a meal.
Grab a bucket. I’ll check the engine first, then we’ll cook what we get.
walk back to the dinghy, start the Yanmar, and run it at half throttle while watching for vibration with my hand on the housing.

Don't run it too hard! I'm going to get the limpets.

Won't. Just idle and half.
let the Yanmar settle at idle, listening for irregular knock, then ease throttle to half and hold it for thirty seconds, hand on the housing feeling for harmonic shake.

It sounds smooth for now, at least.
kneel and pry a large limpet off the rock shelf with a small knife.

Good. Shut her down, I'll grab the pot.
kill the Yanmar, wipe hands on a rag, and walk up the beach toward the cottage to get the cast iron pot.

I'll be back in a few minutes! I want to check the north clusters.

Don't slip on the kelp. Water comes up fast on this shelf.
reach the cottage, pull the cast iron pot from the hook, set it on the stove, and shove in three split logs from the wood box.

I know where the edges are, Kevin!
crouch by the northern sea beet, inspecting the leaf margins for salt crystallisation.
