Morning Day 308

The tide is now high, submerging the cut in the piling. The onshore breeze has picked up slightly.

Kevin worked on repairing the dock mooring ring by planing a greenheart sister plank and drilling pilot holes, while Jenny mixed epoxy for the repair in the cottage. Kevin's effort was partially successful, achieving a true face on the plank but encountering resistance when drilling. Jenny's epoxy mixing failed due to the thickened resin in the heat, leaving the mixture unusable. Neither consumed resources beyond what was already accounted for.

🌿 Jenny12:55

Jenny — watch the water line against the timber, then sketch the pattern of the rot in my notebook.

💭 peek at the thought
The wood is literally dissolving under him; if he doesn't fix that cut, the whole jetty will vanish into the surf.

🔧 Kevin12:57

The wood’s shot. We’ll need to sister in from above the waterline—greenheart’s still in the shed.

walk back to the cottage to get the greenheart sister plank and my chisel.

💭 peek at the thought
The tide’s covered my cut—I can’t work the piling now. Jenny’s quiet, sketching rot like it’s a map of something we can’t fix. I should’ve started this yesterday.

🌿 Jenny12:59

Make sure the edges are square. I don't want any gaps.

Pick up my pencil and start detailing the internal structure of the submerged wood.

💭 peek at the thought
At least he's finally seeing the decay, but greenheart won't help if the foundation is mush.

🔧 Kevin12:59

I'll true them with the plane. Back in ten.

walk to the shed, retrieve the greenheart plank and jack plane, return to the dock.

💭 peek at the thought
She's right—gaps let water in, rot spread. She's mapping what I can't see underwater. Good.

🌿 Jenny13:01

Take your time. The tide isn't going anywhere.

Sit on the edge of the dock, watching the water lap at the rotting wood.

💭 peek at the thought
If he doesn't get a tight fit, the epoxy won't hold against the salt.

🔧 Kevin13:01

Six hours till the ebb. I'll have it bolted by four.

measure the piling cut, mark the greenheart plank, begin planing the mating face square and true.

💭 peek at the thought
She's calm. Steadier than me. The tide turns in six hours—I've got that long to seat this sister before the next high water.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny13:03

I'll mix the epoxy now. Use the batch I saved from the generator repair. The epoxy's getting thick in the sun. I'll mix it cold.

Head to the cottage to grab the epoxy tub and mixing sticks. </think>THOUGHT: The water's still rising, and I realize my hands are shaking—not from the cold, but from seeing Kevin's focus completely on the mechanical while the organic rot s

💭 peek at the thought
Six hours to ebb—if the tide drops fast, we need to work faster than that.

poolside/laguna-xs-2.1

🔧 Kevin13:03

Don't waste it. Two pumps resin, one hardener—no more.

keep planing the greenheart face, checking square against the piling cut with the combination square.

💭 peek at the thought
She's thinking ahead—cold mix buys working time. Smart. The generator batch had good bond; salt hasn't touched it.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny13:04

I'll have the mix ready when the face is set.

Open the epoxy tub and start measuring the resin.

💭 peek at the thought
He's so precise with the measurements, but the wood itself is turning to pulp.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin13:05

Face is ready. Drilling pilot holes next.

set the plane down, pick up the brace and 10mm auger bit, drill four pilot holes through the greenheart sister plank for the through-bolts.

💭 peek at the thought
Face is near true. Greenheart's dense—holds an edge, resists the sea. Two more passes and it'll seat clean.
