Midday meal and gale preparation
Kevin and Jenny meet at the garden table under the deployed shade cloth. The heirloom bed shows one fresh planting. The barometer reads 1024 hPa steady. The garden tarp corners need re-staking before the coming gale. A pot of boiled limpets steams on the wood stove.
The air is heavy and humid under the overcast sky as the atmospheric pressure continues to drop. The tide is receding steadily, exposing the slick rocks of the tide pools. Kevin works to secure the garden tarp against the rising wind gusts, while Jenny kneels by the garden bed, carefully pressing the first heirloom seed into the damp soil.
Limpets smell good. Tarp's flapping on the northeast corner. I'll stake it before the wind picks up.
walk to the garden shed, grab the mallet and spare stakes, move to the northeast corner of the garden tarp

Just make sure it's tight. The wind is coming through anyway.
rub the swollen ankle, wince, sketch the sea beet morphology in the notebook with a shaky hand.

Northeast done. Southwest next.
drive the stake deep with the mallet, check the tension on the tarp, move to the southwest corner and repeat

I'm starting. The soil is finally ready.
open the seed tin, take out a single heirloom seed, and press it into the dark earth of the garden bed.

Other two corners hold. I'll check the greenheart shim at the ebb.
test the southeast and northwest tarp stakes, find them solid, wipe hands on trousers, walk toward the dock

Watch the tide. The rot looks deeper than I thought.
cover the seed with loose soil, stand up slowly with a groan, and watch him walk away.
