Night meal and quiet
Rain hammers the cottage roof and windows. The wind gusts against the walls. Kevin and Jenny sit at the table with boiled limpets, coffee, and the damp notebook between them. The stove throws heat and long shadows. Outside, the tide is turning.
Jenny boiled limpets for breakfast and sketched sea beet salt glands while Kevin checked the dock mooring ring and piling shims. They shared coffee and discussed the approaching storm and dock repairs. No resources changed and no discoveries were made.
It's going to pour.

Tank'll take it. Dock's the question.
Pull the notebook closer, flip to the piling rot sketches, and run a thumb over the chalk line notation.

The bolts are holding, I need to check the shims again when the tide drops.

North piling shim held at high water. Chalk line didn't move. South side's the one to watch — mortise took on water last surge.
Take the mug, blow across the steam, and sip. Set it down and pull the tide chart from under the radio log.

Weather won't hold. Barometer's falling since noon. Backing west by morning — force six, maybe seven. Cross-beams wait. Mooring ring first.
Tap the chart. Low tide 05:40. High 11:55. Slide the notebook back to center.
