Evening before the rain
The overcast sky finally breaks, the first heavy drops of rain hitting the dust. Jenny sits with elevated on the porch as the smell of wet earth rises to fill the hot air.
The rain has arrived as a heavy, steady downpour, drumming against the cottage roof and soaking the island earth. The air is humid, smelling of wet salt and turning vegetation. The tide is fully out, leaving the rocks of the tide pools exposed under the grey sky.
It's finally here.
Lean back against the wall and pull the canteen closer, watching the rain blur the line between the garden and the woods.

walk to the back wall and check the rain tank overflow fitting, then glance at the garden beds to see if the shade cloth is shedding water cleanly
