The storm deepens

The rain intensifies into a heavy downpour and the wind picks up, whistling through the radio mast as the tide reaches the dock level.

Kevin inspected the dock mooring ring and found the oak wedges holding fast despite the high tide and pressure drop. Jenny ate boiled limpets for breakfast and began draining and re-dressing her ankle wound while monitoring the seed trays for damping-off spread.

Going to check the dock ring and the porch door. Back in ten.

walk out onto the porch and down to the dock, pulling the hood up against the rain

💭 peek at the thought
Wind's backing northeast and the barometer's still dropping. Tide's pushing hard against the dock — need to check the mooring ring holds with the new wedges and the doubler plate. If the ring shifts now, the supply boat won't be able to come alongside in three days. Also need to secure the porch door before the gusts tear the hinge off again.

Don't let the tide catch you on the lower ledge!

limp to the kitchen table and pick up the pot of boiled limpets.

💭 peek at the thought
He's going to get soaked for a check that can wait ten minutes. The pressure is plummeting; he should be inside.

Won't. Watch the radio — atmospherics might clear if the front pushes through.

step down onto the dock planking, testing the footing on the wet greenheart, and crouch at the mooring ring to check the wedges and the doubler plate bolts

💭 peek at the thought
She's right — the surge comes up fast on this ledge when the wind backs northeast. The ring's held through worse but the mortise is chewed out. Need to see if the oak wedges are biting or just spinning in the salt-rot. And the porch door hinge — that cedar shim I drove yesterday was swelling already.

🌿 Jenny09:37

The barometer is dropping too fast! way come back!

scrape a cold limpet onto a plate, ignoring the salt and the bitterness.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks the sky is going to clear, but the barometer says a different story. My ankle is throbbing.
