The approaching rain

The first heavy drops of the wet season rain fall just as the tide reaches the base of the shrine stones.

Kevin successfully secured the garden tarp as the rain began, hammering the oak stakes deep into the mud to withstand the wind. Meanwhile, Jenny attempted to check the garden drain on her way back but struggled with the terrain and her ankle, forced to retreat to the cottage before the downpour intensified.

It's starting.

Close the notebook quickly and pull the waterproof casing tight.

💭 peek at the thought
Right on time. The barometer didn't lie.

🔧 Kevin21:44

Yeah. Let’s get the tarp secured before it soaks through.

walk back to the cottage, grab the heavy-duty tarp and timber strips, then head to the garden to reweight and retie the lifted corners.

💭 peek at the thought
The rain’s come early and hard—this trench won’t hold, and the dock’s still got that loose ring. I should’ve fixed it yesterday.

🌿 Jenny21:45

I'll check the garden drain on the way back.

Stand up slowly, wincing at the ankle, and limp toward the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
If that tarp fails, the heirloom seedlings are gone before they even sprout.

🔧 Kevin21:46

I’ll meet you at the porch. Don’t overdo it.

walk toward the garden, check the tarp corners first—see which stakes have pulled loose, then retie them with the heavy-duty twine and drive the oak stakes deeper if needed.

💭 peek at the thought
She’s pushing herself again—ankle’s still raw, and she’s limping toward the cottage like it’s nothing. I should’ve stayed to help with the drain.

🌿 Jenny21:47

I'll be careful.

Tuck the notebook under my arm and start navigating the slippery path to the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks I can't move, but the garden won't wait.

🔧 Kevin21:48

Just get inside and dry off. I’ll handle the drain.

walk to the garden’s edge, inspect the tarp corners where they’ve lifted, retie each with the heavy-duty twine to the oak stakes, and hammer the stakes deeper into the wet soil to hold.

💭 peek at the thought
She’s stubborn as ever—tucking that notebook like it’s sacred, limping on that ankle. I’ll fix the tarp, then check the drain myself. No need for both of us to risk it.
