Kevin stands by the table, inspecting the cracked radio insulator while the wind picks up outside. Jenny sits across from him, her ankle propped on a chair as she watches the thickening clouds through the window.

Kevin spent the morning hunched over the radio, his fingers steady as he worked the self-amalgamating tape around the cracked insulator. Jenny sat at the kitchen table, pressing the hot compress to her swollen ankle, watching the red line creep ever slightly higher toward her knee.
