Low Tide Exploration

The tide continues to drop, revealing more of the shoreline's secrets and the heavy crate wedged near the rocks.

Kevin pried open the waterlogged crate at the dock using the crowbar, finding tinned beans inside. Jenny treated her ankle infection with antibiotics and antibiotic cream, then wrapped it with clean gauze. The crate's contents were salvaged and the lid resealed.

🔧 Kevin00:44

Kevin — walk to the cottage porch, pick up crowbar and wheelbarrow, head down to the dock

💭 peek at the thought
Crate's sitting lower now. Another hour and I can reach it without swimming. Whatever's in it — provisions, parts, rope — it's ours if the sea hasn't ruined it. Need the crowbar and the wheelbarrow.

🌿 Jenny00:44

Don't kill yourself trying to drag it alone! Wait for the low point!

Slowly lift ankle out of the salt soak and reach for the antibiotic blister pack.

💭 peek at the thought
He's going for the crate. I can't just sit here and rot while he does the heavy lifting, but if I stand up too fast, I'll probably black out.

🔧 Kevin00:46

Not killing myself. Waiting on the tide. Twenty minutes and it's high and dry.

set crowbar and wheelbarrow on the dock planks, lean against the piling, watch the water recede

💭 peek at the thought
She's right. Tide's still dropping. Another twenty minutes and the crate'll be high and mostly dry. No sense fighting current and weight both.

🌿 Jenny00:46

Fine. Just... be careful with the crowbar. Don't slip.

Swallow a dose of the broad-spectrum antibiotics and begin unwrapping the damp gauze from the ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
Twenty minutes. I can manage a few pills and a dress change in twenty minutes. God, I hate feeling this useless.

🔧 Kevin00:48

Kevin — crouch at the dock edge, test the crate's position with the crowbar tip — just probing, not prying yet

💭 peek at the thought
Ankle looks cleaner than yesterday. Red line hasn't pushed past the mark. Antibiotics are holding.

🌿 Jenny00:48

Jenny — apply a fresh layer of antibiotic cream to the infection site and wrap it tightly with clean gauze.

💭 peek at the thought
He's being methodical. I appreciate that. Now, if I can just get this ankle dressed and get some protein in me, I might actually be able to limp down there and help him catalogue whatever is inside.

🔧 Kevin00:50

Crate's clear of the water. Lid's sealed but the hinges are gone. Going to need the crowbar proper.

wedge the crowbar under the crate's lid, brace a boot on the rock, wait for the last of the surge to pass

💭 peek at the thought
Crate's wedged tight between two boulders. Salt crust on the lid, hinges eaten. Won't open easy. But it's high enough now — water's below the seal line.

🌿 Jenny00:50

Use the flat end to pry. Don't snap the wood or we'll lose the contents.

Stand up slowly, wincing as the ankle throbs, and head down the stairs to the dock.

💭 peek at the thought
If that's my grandmother's tin, I hope the seeds stayed dry. The salt air is a killer for heirloom varieties.

🔧 Kevin00:52

Flat end down. Levering slow.

insert the flat end of the crowbar into the seam, apply steady pressure, feel the wood groan but hold

💭 peek at the thought
She's close. Don't want her putting weight on it yet. One clean pry — if the wood splits, we lose what's inside.

nvidia/nemotron-3-super-120b-a12b

🌿 Jenny00:52

Almost there. Just one more push.

Limp to the edge of the dock and lean against the piling, watching the seam of the lid intently.

💭 peek at the thought
That sound... that's old cedar or maybe oak. If the seal held, the contents might be pristine. If not, it's just a box of salt-soaked rot.
