A Quiet Stretch
Back at the cottage.
Kevin cleared the spring intake and confirmed the water tank is filling cleanly, then checked the generator oil. Jenny carried the moldy seed tin to the loft and spread the damp packets on the floorboards to air, brushing off visible spores.
I'm going into the loft. Don't touch the seed tin.
Sit on the kitchen bench, unwrap the bandage from my ankle, and hiss at the inflamed skin.

Leave the tin. I'll check the generator oil and the water filter.
walk to the generator shed, check oil level and fuel filter, then inspect the water intake screen at the spring catchment

Make sure the intake is clear. The runoff is heavy today.
Climb the ladder to the loft and lay the mold-covered seed tin on the way board near the eaves.

Yeah.
walk to the spring catchment, pull the intake screen, rinse it clean in the bucket, reinstall and check flow into the tank

Jenny — open the seed tin carefully and spread the remaining damp packets across the dry floorboards to air out.

Intake's clear. Tank's taking water clean.
walk back to the cottage, wipe hands on a rag, check the generator oil dipstick while I'm at it

Good. I'm airing the seeds in the loft. Just leave me be for a bit.
Reach for the small brush in my kit and gently flick a stray spore cluster off the edge of a bean packet.
