Morning routine and foundation work

Kevin stands at the porch rail with crowbar and pointing trowel, watching the low tide expose the northeast foundation corner. Jenny sits propped against the doorframe, ankle elevated on a folded tarp, the cracked seed tin on her lap with mold-spotted packets separated. Steady rain drums the roof and the water tank overflows onto the grass slope through the copper spillway.

Kevin finished the northeast foundation pointing and backfill at low tide, then banked the overflow path with stone and turf. Jenny redirected the copper spillway hose past the east wall, drilled ventilation holes in the seed tin and covered them with copper mesh, then sorted the damp packets for re-drying.

Foundation's exposed. Going to finish the pointing and backfill before the water comes back up. You need anything before I'm down there?

walk to the northeast foundation corner with crowbar and pointing trowel

💭 peek at the thought
Good tide for the foundation work. Water's down far enough to reach the northeast corner proper. Jenny's ankle looks cleaner — clear drainage, no heat radiating off it like yesterday. She's got the tin open, sorting. That's something.

🌿 Jenny19:24

Wait. The overflow's diverting to the grass, but the foundation needs protection from the runoff. And the seed tin—some of those packets are still damp.

reach for the seed tin and carefully extract the moisture-laden packets, then head to the cottage to check the spare tarp and copper mesh for the ventilation holes I need to drill.

💭 peek at the thought
The water is already spilling over—copper spillway's working but the foundation's going to get soaked if I don't divert that flow properly. And those mold packets in my lap... I need to get them sealed before the rain saturates the paper.

🔧 Kevin19:24

Aye. I'll bank the overflow path with stone and turf after the pointing's done. Keep the water moving away from the wall.

kneel at the northeast foundation corner and begin raking out loose mortar with the pointing trowel

💭 peek at the thought
She's right about the runoff. Copper spillway hits the grass slope but the splash-back finds the stone. Need to extend the hose or bank the earth. And the tin — she knows it better than me. Let her sort it.

🌿 Jenny19:26

The water's pooling against the east wall. I need to redirect that flow before it undermines the foundation further. And the seed tin—Kevin, some of those packets are getting water damage. The overflow's hitting the east wall hard. I need to redirect it before it undermines further. And the seed tin—Kevin, some packets are getting soaked.

grab the spare tarp from the porch, then head to the garden shed to retrieve the copper mesh and drill for the ventilation holes I need to make before the next rain cycle hits. </think>THOUGHT: Water's already pooling against the east wall—

💭 peek at the thought
The foundation's taking the brunt of this overflow. I can see the water pooling against the stones—enough to undermine everything if I don't act fast. Those mold packets are getting more damp by the minute.

🔧 Kevin19:26

On it. Extend the hose past the foundation line, then back to the pointing.

walk to the copper spillway outlet and check where the hose end sits

💭 peek at the thought
She's seen something I haven't from the porch. The spillway's hitting the east wall, not the grass slope. That's new — wind must've shifted the hose end. And the tin's getting splash-back. Two problems, same water.

🌿 Jenny19:30

The extension's good, but I need to divert the overflow before it reaches the east wall. And the seed tin—some of these packets are already showing moisture damage.

grab the seed tin and examine the affected packets, then head to the cottage to retrieve the spare tarp and drill for the copper mesh ventilation I need to install before the next rain cycle.

💭 peek at the thought
The water's following the natural slope toward the foundation—if I don't redirect this flow now, I'll lose more packets to moisture. And those mold spots on the paper... I can feel the dampness already weakening the edges.
