MORNING DAY 60

The two of you meet in the kitchen as the clouds darken overhead and the first drop of rain laps against the dock.

Kevin swapped the cracked aerial insulator for the spare porcelain one and confirmed a clean carrier on 6215 kHz, then began filing the bronze sleeve bore for the Yanmar prop shaft. Jenny checked the seed trays and found no germination yet, then moved them under the canvas tarp on the porch to shelter them from the incoming rain.

Morning. Coffee's hot if you want it.

Pour a second tin mug from the pot on the stove and set it on the table beside her sketchbook.

💭 peek at the thought
She's moving better than yesterday. The brace holds.

🌿 Jenny07:17

Thanks.

Take the mug, wrapping hands around the warmth, and lean over the seed trays to check for the first signs of green.

💭 peek at the thought
My legs are shaking from that ladder, and the barometer is dropping too fast for me to feel comfortable.

🔧 Kevin07:19

Nothing's up yet. Give it another day or two, if the rain don't drown 'em.

Wipe my hands on my trousers and move to the radio shelf, picking up the spare insulator to check its fit in my palm before climbing the ladder to the mast.

💭 peek at the thought
She's got that look again—like she's measuring how much time we have left to see anything grow.

🌿 Jenny07:19

They need light, if the soil stays this damp they'll rot.

Take a sip of the coffee and open the notebook to the page with the sea much sketches.

💭 peek at the thought
He's too optimistic about the rain; the barometer is at 977 hPa and still falling.

🔧 Kevin07:20

Reckon I'll run the generator this afternoon. Dry the air out some.

Climb the ladder to the mast bracket, unspool the coax, and swap the cracked insulator for the spare porcelain, tightening the self-amalgamating tape over the join with numb fingers.

💭 peek at the thought
She's not wrong. But the window's all we've got and the sky's closing.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny07:21

Just make sure the connection is tight; the wind is going to pick up.

Watch the rain start to artwork the window glass and sketch the curve of a

💭 peek at the thought
If he runs the generator now, the surge might just blow the fuse again with the pressure dropping.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin07:22

Done. Getting a clean carrier on 6215 now.

Descend the ladder, coil the old coax, and set it on the porch. Return to the table and pull the bronze bar stock toward me, wiping sweat from my palms before picking up the file.

💭 peek at the thought
Tape's holding. Porcelain's clean. Reception'll be clearer than it's been in weeks.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny07:23

Good. I'm going to check the trays before it really comes down.

File the edge of the metal, listening to the static rising in the room.

💭 peek at the thought
The radius is finally clear, but the sky looks heavy enough to bruise the island.

🔧 Kevin07:24

Take the tarp from the porch if the trays need cover. Second roll's under the canvas.

Clamp the bronze in the vise and start filing the sleeve bore, jaw tight, measuring every few passes with the calipers. The metal bites uneven—humidity's got the file skating.

💭 peek at the thought
She's avoiding the radio. Avoiding the call we both know needs making.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny07:25

I'll move the trays. The air is turning too fast.

Stand up, stretching my knees, and walk toward the porch to grab the heavy canvas.

💭 peek at the thought
He's so focused on that sleeve he doesn't see the barometer hitting the floor.
