Afternoon Shelter

The rain tapers to a drizzle as Kevin and Jenny meet in the kitchen. The smell of damp wood and drying seeds fills the room while the water tank reaches its brim.

Kevin mounted the bronze bar stock in the lathe and began turning a new Yanmar prop shaft sleeve, achieving a clean, true bore. Jenny cooked the last tin of corned beef with dried sea beet, but discovered a rat had chewed through the flour sack in the pantry, contaminating the remaining flour.
