Morning of Day 62

Kevin and Jenny gather in the kitchen as the smell of searing corned beef and salty sea beet fills the heavy grey air.

No narrator was available, so nothing about this stretch was recorded.

The limpets are done. Don't overcook them or they'll be like rubber.

Slides the chopped sea beet into the skillet and reaches for a plate.

I'm so hungry my hands are shaking, and if I don't eat, I won't have strength for the sketches.

Skillet's hot enough. They'll take thirty seconds.

Slide two limpets from the pan onto the plate, then fork a portion of sea beet beside them. Set the plate on the table and pull out the other chair.

💭 peek at the thought
Breakfast smells right. Simple work, good food, the radio quiet for once. I'll eat, then get the epoxy on the transom before the tide comes up too far.

The leaves still need to dry on the stove later.

sits down and picks up the fork, staring at the limpets before taking a bite.

He's always in such a rush, like the food is going to run away.

Leaves can wait. Transom first while the tide's low enough to work the hull.

Pick up a limpet with the fork, eat it. Chew. Reach for the corned beef tin and spoon some fat into the skillet for the second batch.

💭 peek at the thought
She's thinking ahead already. Drying, storing, winter. I'm still on today — transom, seacocks, radio. One thing at a time.
