Morning preparations at the dock

The high tide laps against the dock pilings as the sun warms the wooden planks. Kevin lays the lathe tools on the portable workbench while Jenny organizes the seed tin and gathered greens for the morning.

Pick up the replacement float needle and examine the seat under the magnifier, turning it slow to catch the light on the machined face.

The float needle's still the priority. If I can get the engine breathing clean, the dinghy becomes a real boat — not just a rowboat. But my thumb's swollen from yesterday's drill work, and the lathe needs a steady hand. Might need to let it settle first, or rig a jig to hold the needle true.

She's keen on the pools. Good. Keeps her out of the cottage, gives me space on the engine. The needle's seat is pitted — vinegar won't touch that. Need to lap it or turn a new one from brass stock if we have any thick enough.
