Midday Preparation
Kevin is at the dock; Jenny is at the old shrine.
Kevin repaired the north fence corner post with greenheart and walked the fence line, marking two more posts needing replacement. Jenny completed the first test pit sketch at the shrine, packed up, and walked back toward the cottage along the ridge.
You gather the pickaxe and the wood to begin digging the hole for the new post.
Kevin — dig the post hole at the north fence corner with the pickaxe, clearing out the rotted remnants of the old post. Set the greenheart offcut upright, backfill and tamp in layers. Check plumb with the level.

Kevin — clean the pickaxe blade on the grass, shoulder it, and walk the north fence line toward the next corner post. Check each post for movement, rot at ground line, wire tension. Make mental note of what needs doing.

Kevin — mark the two bad posts with chalk — X on the loose one, circle on the missing. Turn back toward the cottage. Stop at the garden gate. Peer through the slats at the tomato rows under shade cloth. Wonder if Jenny's finished at the shrine.

You watch how water moves through the stones, noting where the silt is pooling.
Jenny — pull out the notebook and sketch the cross-section of the test pit, marking the water flow path.
