Evening ankle check and roof tarp inspection

Kevin and Jenny meet on the cottage porch as light fails. The storm lantern is lit. Kevin carries the first-aid kit and the buried-cache antibiotics. Jenny lifts her trouser leg, the poultice wrap stained green-brown. The heavy-duty tarp on the roof flaps once in a gust from the south.

Kevin and Jenny worked to secure the cottage roof against the rising wind and impending storm. Kevin struggled with the high chimney flashing, slipping on the slick shingles, while Jenny managed to batten the south section of the tarp. The leak in the northeast corner persists as the atmospheric pressure drops.

The pH is 5.5 out here. It won't hold the heirloom varieties.

Sketch the drainage trench cross-section in the notebook.

💭 peek at the thought
The soil is too acidic by the wall; the north ridge is the only hope for grandmother's seeds.

🔧 Kevin00:53

Trench held the first section. Stone backfill tamped. Tarp's seated in the clay at forty centimetres. Need to run the next ten metres before the rain settles in proper.

set the first-aid kit on the porch table, peel the blister packs from the oilcloth wrapper, and hold out two doxycycline and two metronidazole with a tin mug of water

💭 peek at the thought
The lime beds are holding at 6.8 to 7.0, but the untreated ground is leaching acid faster than we can amend it. If the trench doesn't hold, the garden wall goes next. Her ankle looks angry still — red line tracking but slower than yesterday. Antibiotics from the cache are the only thing keeping her out of a helicopter.

I'll take them. If the ridge stays dry, I'm moving the tin tomorrow.

Take the pills and water while looking at the overcast sky.

💭 peek at the thought
He's so focused on the structure, but the chemistry is what's failing under our feet.

Ridge held the test pits. Cairns are still standing. You'll have a dry footpath if the stakes hold.

watch her swallow the pills, then reach for the stained poultice wrap to peel it back and check the wound margins

💭 peek at the thought
She's thinking ahead. Good. The ridge is the only ground that drains. If the tin gets up there before the next big wet, the seeds stand a chance. Her ankle — she's putting weight on it steadier than two days ago. The poultice is doing its work, slow as it is.

🌿 Jenny00:56

Just check the edges. I want to see if the redness is retreating.

Lean back against the stone wall, watching his hands as he removes the bandage.

💭 peek at the thought
The infection is quiet today, but the throbbing never lies. He always thinks everything is fixed.

🔧 Kevin00:56

Red line's back two centimetres from yesterday's mark. Edges are pink, not purple. No heat past the ankle bone. You're winning.

clean the wound with the last of the saline, pack fresh sea beet and mint into the abscess cavity, and wrap it tight with clean gauze

💭 peek at the thought
Edges look cleaner. The angry purple has faded to dull red, and the heat's dropped. No fresh streaking past the mark I pencilled yesterday. Debridement and the sea beet are holding it. She's tougher than she knows — than I let myself say.

🌿 Jenny00:58

Don't get ahead of yourself. The soil is still too acidic for way real.

Rub the wrapped ankle and watch the barometer drop.

💭 peek at the thought
Two centimetres is a start, but the island is still trying to rot me whole.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin00:58

Didn't say the war was won. Said you're winning. Different thing. Barometer's at 991 and still dropping. South wind'll back southwest by midnight if the glass doesn't lie.

tuck the used saline bottle and bloody gauze into the burn bag, then stand and move to the porch rail to check the roof tarp tension against the strengthening gusts

💭 peek at the thought
She's right. One day of retreat doesn't mean the war's won. Same as the garden — one trench section holding doesn't mean the wall stands. Barometer's still falling. The south gust that hit the tarp earlier wasn't a one-off. She's watching the glass same as me.
