Kevin stands on the porch with the generator running at full load, the exhaust clean and steady as he times the thirty-minute test. Jenny is at the radio table inside, the shortwave warmed up and ready for the 0800 call to the supply boat, the cracked insulator still holding on the mast. Through the open door the bay is visible, a pale jellyfish bloom drifting slow with the rising tide.
