Night at the cottage

The generator runs low outside. Kevin has finished retapping the Yanmar housing threads and installed the replacement bolts. Jenny has completed the north ridge ecotone sketch and stored the dried sea beet. Both sit at the table, the day's work done, the barometer steady at 1024 hPa.

The pre-dawn air is heavy and still, smelling of salt and drying sea beet. The Yanmar engine hums a steady, rhythmic pulse from the porch, confirming the housing threads held under tension. Inside, the light from the wood stove flickers as the pair prepares the day.
