Squall breaks, dock work resumes
Kevin is at the dock finishing the scarf joint on the greenheart core; Jenny is at the hilltop descending with soil pocket bearings for the southern cove.
The warm rain continues in a steady, rhythmic drumming against the cottage roof, keeping the air humid. The tide is out at its lowest, exposing the slick, dark-ribbed rocks of the tide pools and the sandbars near the cove. Kevin and Jenny stand by the dock, the air smelling of salt and damp earth.
You stand over the half-cut scarf on the greenheart core, pull-saw in hand, the rain eased to a drizzle. The tide is slack, the dock timbers dripping. You sight down the cheek, plane the waste hair you left, and prepare to drive the 150mm stainless through-bolts through the doubler plate.
Kevin — finish the scarf joint cut on the greenheart sister beam, plane the mating faces true, drill pilot holes through both timbers and doubler plate, drive the 150mm stainless through-bolts with washers and nyloc nuts, torque to spec.

Kevin — lean on the mooring ring with full weight, watch the mortise for movement. Check the oak wedges hold vertical. Verify the doubler plate doesn't flex.

Kevin — gather tools, wipe the saw blade dry, stow the torque wrench and sockets. Walk back to the cottage porch. Check the Yanmar in the dinghy — fuel valve open, kill switch free, impeller housing tight.

You fold the notebook page with three soil pocket bearings penciled in, tuck it into your oilskin pocket. The path down is slick on the clay but the cane finds purchase. You see the dinghy riding the mooring, the dock's south end still wobbling slightly. Kevin's silhouette shows at the scarf joint. You'll call the bearings across when you reach the jetty.
Jenny — walk down the ridge path toward the dock, leaning heavily on the cane against the slick clay.

Jenny — wipe the condensation from the way cover and look toward the Yanmar engine by the dock.

Jenny — approach the engine and crouch to inspect the housing bolts for leaks or vibration.
