Morning Prep and Observation

Jenny sits on the bench with her ankle elevated while the rain taps steadily against the roof. Kevin checks the barometer and organizes the Yanmar tools, checking the forecast for the incoming tide.

Kevin inspected and cleaned the Yanmar raw water intake at low tide, confirming the bronze adapter is seated and the prop shaft has no play. Jenny debrided her ankle wound, applied a fresh sea beet and mint poultice, and sketched the sea beet morphology and seacock installation in her notebook.

🔧 Kevin07:38

Low tide in twenty. Going to check the Yanmar intake. Be back before the tide turns.

walk down to the dock with the Yanmar tool kit and headlamp

💭 peek at the thought
Tide's falling. Good window to check the raw water intake before the front pushes swell back in. Her ankle's hot through the gauze — red line past the knee mark I pencilled yesterday. Antibiotics aren't touching it. She knows. I know. Radio's been dead three days. Supply boat's four days overdue if the Dutchman keeps his word. I'll check the intake, come back, change the dressing, try Tom's frequency at 0800. That's the list.

🌿 Jenny07:39

Don't stay out long, the rocks are slick.

Jenny reaches for her notebook and pencil, beginning to sketch the morphology of a sea beet leaf she found on the porch.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks the engine is the only thing failing; the salt is in everything now. I need to check that dressing before the humidity gets too heavy.

🔧 Kevin07:41

Won't. Ten minutes out, ten back.

walk down the dock to the dinghy, check the Yanmar raw water intake grate at low tide, clear any growth

💭 peek at the thought
She's drawing. Good. Means she's still tracking. The pencil moves steady — hand's not shaking yet. I'll make the intake check fast. Barnacles on the grate, maybe a crab in the housing. Ten minutes there, ten back. If the swell's up I'll use the shore path instead of the rocks.

🌿 Jenny07:41

Watch your step.

Jenny shifts her weight, wincing slightly as the ankle brushes the cushion, and reaches for the first aid kit.

💭 peek at the thought
Ten minutes is an eternity when the tide is coming in that fast. I can feel the heat radiating off the skin already.

🔧 Kevin07:42

Kevin — reach the dinghy at the dock, crouch at the transom, pull the raw water intake grate free, scrape barnacles and growth with the wire brush, inspect the housing interior, check prop shaft alignment by eye while I'm there

💭 peek at the thought
She's changing her own dressing while I'm gone. Stubborn. Smart — keeps her hands busy, keeps her mind on the morphology instead of the heat creeping up her leg. I'll check the intake, check the prop shaft while I'm under there, verify the bronze sleeve isn't scoring. Then back up for the 0800 radio window.

🌿 Jenny07:43

Hooked it properly?

Jenny adjusts the bandage on her ankle, feeling the familiar heat spreading, and opens her notebook to make a quick diagram of the intake grate dimensions.

💭 peek at the thought
Barnacles again - this place is always growing over itself. The prop shaft looks true enough from here, but I need to check the actual alignment.

🔧 Kevin07:45

Kevin — pull the bronze adapter from the Yanmar housing, clean the seacock with the wire brush, reinstall the grate with new gasket, torque bolts to 35 Nm, verify no leaks at idle

💭 peek at the thought
She's documenting the grate dimensions while I'm working. Good. Means she's still seeing the island as data, not just pain. I can feel my own hands - they want to check the radio instead of the Yanmar. But the intake's clear, the housing's solid. I'll torque the new bolts to spec, clean the seacock, then be back up for the 0800 window. If the front's pushing hard I might not make it.

🌿 Jenny07:47

Clean work.

Jenny takes the antibiotics from her pocket and places them carefully back in the first aid kit, then begins sketching the seacock installation in her notebook.

💭 peek at the thought
Good work. I should have seen that housing wear earlier - 0.12mm over spec, exactly what I noted in yesterday's inspection.

poolside/laguna-xs-2.1

🔧 Kevin07:49

Intake's clean. Bronze adapter seated. No play on the shaft.

wipe hands on rag, stow tools in the kit, walk back up the dock path to the cottage

💭 peek at the thought
She's drawing the seacock. Means she's watching me even when she's not looking up. The antibiotics went back in the kit untouched — she's saving doses, or she can't keep them down. Either way, the blister pack's lighter than yesterday. I'll wipe down, stow the tools, head back up. Radio at 0800. Tom's frequency. If the atmospherics hold.

🌿 Jenny07:49

See you in the kitchen.

Jenny closes her notebook with a soft thud, stands up slowly while gripping the table for support, and limps toward the kitchen to check the stove.

💭 peek at the thought
He's moving fast for the rain. I need to get this ankle decontaminated before the salt starts to sting more in the humidity.
