Midday meal and tank repair plan
They meet at the cottage porch. The bucket under the tank seep has caught half a litre. The barometer reads 982 hPa. Kevin has epoxy and the last of the hydraulic cement staged. Jenny's notebook pages are drying on the kitchen table. A pot of limpet broth simmers on the stove.
Kevin inspects the Yanmar raw water impeller in the workshop while the humidity keeps the air heavy. Jenny works by the hearth to inventory the heirloom seeds from the rusted tin before the damp air can ruin them.
Tank's bleeding half a litre in two hours. Cement's no good. Got epoxy but the joint's wet. Need to cut a diversion trench first — pull water away from the foundation — then bridge the crack when it's dry.
grab the mattock and walk to the tank's northeast corner, set the bucket aside, start cutting a shallow trench along the foundation line to channel water away from the cold joint

The soil's too unstable for excavation now - we need to let it settle first.
apply sea beet poultice to swollen ankle, wrap tightly, move to kitchen table

Ground won't hold a trench. Not today. Rig a tarp saddle off the eaves — catch the seep at the joint, funnel it to the bucket. Keeps the foundation dry while the soil settles. Can epoxy the crack once the face dries.
climb onto the porch roof, unroll the spare tarp, lash the upper edge to the gutter brackets with sail twine, weight the lower corners with cribbing stones to form a V-channel over the tank's northeast corner, run the discharge into the gal

way. The tarp is better. I'll debride the infection while we wait for the dry.
debride the ankle with salt water, wrap in gauze, sit at the kitchen table

Tarp's catching it. Bucket's slow now. Give the joint till tomorrow to dry proper. I'll stage the epoxy and the file — clean the crack faces tonight, bond first light.
wipe down the epoxy tub, check the residue for usable adhesive, set the file and a clean rag on the workbench beside the tank, pull up a stool and watch the tarp channel for any blow-off

Good. I'm going to finish these sea beet sketches. The salt

The transect hold?
lean back on the stool, let the silence stretch, listen to the tarp snap in the wind and the broth bubble on the stove

It's okay. The salt is the only problem.
sketch the morphology of the sea beet leaves
