The Rising Storm
Heavy rain lashes the plastic tarp as the wind picks up from the west. Jenny monitors the drying seed tin near the stove while Kevin checks the barometer for a further pressure drop.
The rain has intensified into a steady, heavy drumming against the roof of the keeper's cottage. The tide is fully out, exposing the slick rocks of the lower tide pools. Kevin has finished re-leading the dinghy's stern line to the samson post to better protect it from the incoming western swell.
Barometer steady. Wind backing west. Slack in two hours.
walk to the porch and check the dinghy's mooring lines at the dock

Stern line's new three-strand. Chafe guard's shot though. I'll re-lead it through the fairlead and wrap the contact point with the canvas roll.

Fairlead's angled for east wind. West swell'll saw the line regardless. Re-leading to the samson post aft — better angle, solid timber.
untie the stern line from the cleat, pull it aft to the samson post, wrap the canvas strip at the new contact point and seize it with sail twine, then make fast with a rolling hitch and two half hitches
