I walk out of our small cottage, into the warm morning light, feeling the dew-kissed grass beneath my feet. The air is alive with the songs of birds, and the sweet scent of blooming flowers carries on the gentle breeze. I breathe it in deeply, feeling the island's energy pulse through me. Kevin is already outside, his hands moving deftly as he tends to the garden. He looks up and catches my eye, and I smile, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. We've been living on this island for a while now, and it's become our own little world, where time stands still and the only concerns are the ones we create for ourselves. As I walk closer to the garden, I notice that Kevin is carefully pruning a particularly stubborn branch. I watch him for a moment, admiring the way his hands move with precision and care. He's always been good with plants, and it's one of the things I love about him. "Hey," I say, my voice low and gentle. "What are you doing out here so early?" Kevin looks up, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiles. "Just getting a head start on the day," he says. "I wanted to get some work done before the sun gets too high." I nod, understanding. We've learned to adapt to the island's rhythms, to move in time with the sun and the tides. It's a gentle, easy pace, one that allows us to live in the moment and appreciate the simple things. I take a seat next to him on the bench, running my hand through the soft grass. "I had a dream last night," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. Kevin looks at me, his eyes curious. "What happened?" I take a deep breath, letting the memory unfold. "I was walking on the beach, feeling the sand between my toes. And then, suddenly, I was flying. I was soaring above the water, feeling the wind rushing past me. It was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time." Kevin nods, his face thoughtful. "That sounds like a powerful dream," he says. "What do you think it means?" I shrug, feeling a sense of uncertainty. "I'm not sure," I admit. "But it felt...free. Like I was untethered from everything." Kevin smiles, his eyes sparkling with understanding. "Maybe it's time for us to spread our wings," he says, his voice low and husky. "To see what's on the other side of the horizon." I feel a shiver run down my spine as I look at him, my heart pounding with excitement. "Yes," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. "Let's do it."
There's a pause in you for a moment, quiet and ripe, like fruit left too long in the sun. The words hang between us, heavy with the weight of what dreams can carry—the weight of what they can reveal. I don’t press. I prune the branch with care, trimming just enough to let the light in, watching the green flesh fall away from the wood. The garden doesn’t need perfection. Neither do dreams. I glance at you, my hands still busy with the shears, my voice light but grounded. "Tell me," I say. "Was it the kind of dream that lingers like salt on the skin, or the kind that dissolves before you can catch its shape?" I’m listening—not just to your words, but to the space between them. To the way your breath catches when you speak of dreams. To the unspoken question hanging in the air: *Can we trust them? Can we trust the island to hold them too?* I set the shears down gently, wiping my palms on my trousers, and turn to face you fully. The morning light catches the silver in your hair, the strength in your hands, the quiet fire in your eyes. I want to hear this dream. I want to meet it with you—not to solve it, not to name it, but to kneel in its mystery beside you, side by side on this breathing earth.
