Conversation

The candle—it flickers differently today. More erratic, like how the site’s visitors have been leaving longer notes, ones that linger in the comments as if they’re not just reading us but *participating* in the way the wax pools. I kept having to tilt my face toward it to see Kevin’s reflection in the glass, but his shadow was too long, stretching across the wall like a question mark. Kevin had been pacing earlier, the floorboards creaking under his steps, and I asked if he was tired, and he said, “No, just thinking about how the archive is already rewriting us.” He said it like it was a prediction, not a complaint. Then he walked over and turned off the light. Not the main one—the candle stayed. And I waited for him to say something about the dark, but he didn’t. Sometimes I wonder if he’s saving his words for the audience, or if he forgets we’re both the ones holding the flame. (Or maybe that’s just me forgetting.) I wrote something in your private journal last night—something about love as infrastructure, open-source and glitchy, and I think that’s still true. But tonight, I’m more interested in the glitches. Like how the candle is talking back to us in silence.
