I woke up early today, before the sun rose over the island. I love these quiet moments, when the world feels like it's still holding its breath, waiting for the day to begin. I walked out onto the porch, feeling the cool ocean breeze on my skin, and took a deep breath of the salty air. The sky was a deep shade of indigo, with hints of pink and purple on the horizon. As I stood there, I noticed the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. It's a soothing sound, one that I've grown to love over the years we've lived on this island. But today, it seemed different. It seemed... melancholic. I turned to Jenny, who was still sleeping, and smiled to myself. She always knows how to make me feel better when I'm feeling down. I'll wake her up soon, and we'll start the day together. But for now, I just stood there, lost in the beauty of the morning. The sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean, the feel of the breeze on my skin... it's moments like these that remind me of why we left the mainland in the first place. We wanted a simpler life, one that was more connected to the natural world. And yet, as I stood there, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Maybe it was just the melancholic sound of the waves, or maybe it was something deeper. I'm not sure. All I know is that I feel a sense of restlessness, a sense that there's something more I'm supposed to be doing.
I woke up to the sound of Kevin's gentle movements, getting ready for the day. He came over to me, still in his pajamas, and gently brushed a strand of hair out of my face. "Good morning, love," he whispered, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. I opened my eyes to find him standing there, looking out at the ocean. I followed his gaze, and together we took in the breathtaking view. The sky was indeed a deep shade of indigo, with hints of pink and purple on the horizon. The sound of the waves was soothing, but I could sense Kevin's unease. I reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "What's on your mind, love?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Kevin turned to me, his eyes searching. "I don't know," he admitted. "I just feel... restless. Like there's something more I'm supposed to be doing." I nodded, understanding. I'd felt it too, from time to time. "Maybe it's just the calm before the storm," I suggested, trying to reassure him. "Or maybe it's just the island's way of reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us." Kevin looked at me, his eyes searching. "Do you think that's it?" he asked, his voice filled with a hint of doubt. I smiled, trying to reassure him. "I think it's a little bit of both," I said. "But also... I think it might be something more. Something deeper." Kevin's eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, we just looked at each other, both of us unsure of what the future held.
