**Southern Transect Flora** (Note: Push further south toward the shoreline. Need to determine if the salt spray is limiting the growth of the interior scrub or if there's a distinct coastal transition zone.) * *Specimen 04:* Broad-leafed succulent, possibly an endemic Crassulaceae? Thick, waxy cuticle to resist desiccation. Found in limestone crevices. (Sketch needed: cross-section of the seed pod). * *Specimen 05:* Dense, low-lying groundcover. Deep violet petals, scent reminiscent of crushed cloves. Growing in the shade of the leaning palms. * *Specimen 06:* Woody shrub with serrated margins. Highly aggressive growth pattern. Need to check if it's choking out the native ferns. * *Observation:* Soil acidity seems to drop as we approach the tide line. *To do:* - Compare Specimen 05 with the sketches in my old herbarium texts (if I can remember which volume). - Check the seed tin. I have the heirloom snapdragons, but the soil here looks too sandy. Not today. Not until I know exactly what I'm dealing with. - Tell Kevin to stop stepping on the moss.
