Clearing the Pile
Kevin stacks the removed boards while Jenny prepares to fetch more water for the seedlings.
The midday heat is heavy, but the light onshore breeze breeze carries the scent of salt and vegetation as the tide rises steadily. The Yanmar housing sits on the dock bench, the bronze sleeve ready for the final heat-fit, while the heirloom seeds continue to dehydrate slowly on paper towels in the shaded kitchen.
You lean the splintered planks against the garden wall. The tide is just beginning to creep back toward the pilings.
Kevin — walk along the exposed pilings at water's edge, inspecting each for rot, movement, or marine borer damage

You use a small mister to carefully hydrate the tomato and basil seedlings. The water in the tank is nearly full.
Stay dry, just for a little longer.
Wipe the condensation off the window glass and check the barometer again.
